Overtime

Overtime is a short-form web series documenting the ups and downs of the York Lions Women’s Hockey Team over several seasons. The project was meant to be an all-access look at the life of a varsity athlete at York, while telling the story of the team’s attempt to bounce back after seasons of disappointment.

The series, consisting of ten episodes, covered the team for three seasons. After two more years of missing the post-season, the 2019-20 season found the Lions in a playoff spot for the first time since 2012. The team’s historic run led to them sweeping the first two rounds and qualifying for the program’s first ever National Championship.

I directed, shot, and edited the project myself, along with some assistance from other students on two of the major game days. The series has been used to advertise York Lions events to students within the school, as well as to promote the Women’s Hockey program to potential recruits.

Following the 2020 season, the episode “Believe”, covering the McCaw Cup final, won the OUA’s CHAMP award for Video Feature of the Year.
